Canton-Elaine Elliott "Mamaw" O'Neil-52, of Edgewood Drive in the Bethel Community died Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at her home.

She was a native of Buncombe County and was a daughter of Georgia Watts Elliott of Biltmore and the late Harold Elliott. She was also preceded in death by a brother Phillip Elliott. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sonoma Chapter #254.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 30 years, A. Dexter O'Neil of Canton, one adopted daughter Sissie Reeves Howell and her husband Doug of Canton, one step-daughter, Shelley Richardson and her husband Brian of Monroe, NC, one sister, JoAnn Laughter of Asheville, three brothers Reverend Robert Elliott, Steven Elliott of Asheville and Owen Elliott of Littleton, 3 grandchildren, Seth, Jake and Peyton Howell and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2003 at Beulah Baptist Church with Reverend Virgil Holloway and Reverend T. M. Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church Organ Fund, 483 Sunset Circle, Canton, NC 28716 or to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, Home Health Building, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 or to a charity of one's choice.
