Edwin Eldridge Goodson

Candler

Edwin Eldridge Goodson, 85, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024, at his residence in Candler. He was born on February 25, 1939, in Buncombe County to the late Eldridge George and Leila Moore Goodson.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters, Rhonda Gail Rose, and Pamela Darlene McAllister; grandson; Joseph “Joey” Goodson, Chuck Webster; as well as his brother David George Goodson.

Edwin had worked all his life, which was his favorite thing to do. He worked thirteen and a half years at American Enka, then continued his career at Champion paper for 27 years and then retired after working 5 years at Blue Ridge Paper. He loved spending his time cutting grass and working in his garden, but what he enjoyed most was sharing the produce with friends and family. His greatest accomplishments were his family. He loved them with all his heart as well as his church and church family. Edwin served in many capacities at Ridgeway Baptist Church as a Chairman of the cemetery committee, maintenance, and anything he was asked to do, he was always willing to lend a hand.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Beverly Childers Goodson, sister Wanda Mintz (Harold) of Candler; daughter Stephanie Elaine Houck (Dale) of Greeneville, TN; sons, Randall Eldridge Goodson (Dawn) of Candler, David Ray Ragan (Amy) of Brevard, Eugene Edwin Goodson (Kathy) of Lincolnton, NC; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Plus, many nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Ridgeway Baptist Church, 525 Old U.S. 19-23, Candler, NC 28715 with Reverend Mike Leslie and Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the service. The burial will follow the service at the Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery.
