Edwin Alten

Edwin G. Alten "1918 – 2013" Canton – Edwin George Alten, age 95, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. A native of Park Ridge, Illinois, he was a son of the late William and Martha Butenschaen Alten. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Bartholomew Alten, who died in 2012; and a son, Michael Alten. Edwin loved gardening and was a United States Army veteran. He is survived by a daughter, Gail Smathers and her husband, Melvin, of Canton; one granddaughter, Carla Reece and her husband, Jimmy, and two great-grandsons, Cade and Seth, all of Canton; one son, George Grossi and his wife, Ruth, of Billings, Montana; three grandsons; Thadd, Jake, and Luke, and one great-grandson; and Eva Shepard, who was a special caregiver for both Alice and Ed. Services will be held at a later date.
