Edna Cook

Canton-Edna Abel Cook, age 84, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Aston Park Health Care Center. A native and life long resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lizzie Smathers Abel. Mrs. Cook was also preceded in death by her husband, Weaver Cook who died in 1983; one sister, Ann Shurson, two brothers, Ted and Ken Abel and one nephew, David Abel who died in 2006. She retired from American Enka Corp. before retiring with thirty years service. Mrs. Cook was a member of Sunny Point Baptist Church. She is survived by one step-daughter, Nadina Finney, of Florida; step-son Jimmy Cook of Canton; one brother, Glen Abel, and his wife, Mary Lou of Canton; one nephew, Doug Abel and his wife, Judy, of Canton and one niece, Brenda Abel of Candler. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday June 15, 2007 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend William Terrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sunny Point Baptist Church, 132 Sunny Point Drive, Canton, NC 28716
