Edna Broyles

Canton – Edna Rhodarmer Broyles, 95, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Claude Baxter and Inez Phillips Rhodarmer.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Porter Addison Broyles who died in 2006; a daughter, Margaret Broyles; and a sister, Artie Smathers.  Edna was a member of Plains United Methodist Church where she and Porter helped start a BBQ fund raising for the Men’s Sunday school class.  Edna also served as a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed working in her church.  Edna was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Sonoma #254 and liked spending time at lake Chatuge.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha Broyles of Canton; two brothers, Bill Rhodarmer of Charlotte and C. V. Rhodarmer of Mills River; and a grandson, Nathan Robinson.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road with the Reverend Clay J. Morgan and Reverend Zach Christy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plains United Methodist Church, 2029 Newfound Road, Canton, NC  28716.
