Edna Alsdurf

November 8, 1925 — August 18, 2018

Waynesville, Edna Beatrice Atkinson Alsdurf, age 92, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018. After a lengthy illness, she died peacefully at her residence.

A native of Robeson County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Edwin B. and Lizzie Mae Johnson Atkinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth G. "Ken" Alsdurf who died in 2017.

Edna and Ken came to Waynesville in 1967 when Dr. Carlyle Marney established Interpreters' House. She served as his Executive Assistant until his death in 1978. At that time she became executive assistant to Dr. Joe Hale, President of the World Methodist Council whose international office was located at Lake Junaluska. She continued in that role until her retirement.

Edna was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. She held several leadership positions in the church, including serving a term as Chair of the Church Council.

Edna is survived by her sister, Norma Ellis, of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The interment will be private. A Celebration of the lives of Edna and Ken will be held at a later date.
