Edith Fincher Williams

Edith Fincher Williams, 89, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. 

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Cora Mae Putnam Fincher.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Darrell Williams; seven sisters, Betty McFalls, Bobbie Pilkington, Gail Murray, Alice Pilkey, Jean Beasley, Dale (Tootie) Trull, and Sue Dale; one brother, Jimmy Pilkington; one grandson, Christopher Elton Potter; and one great-aunt, Nora Benfield.  She was employed in the retail sales business as a cashier.  Edith was a member of Woodland Baptist Church.  She enjoyed all music from rock to heavy metal to classical, with her favorite band being Black Sabbath.  Edith often called her favorite radio stations to win tickets.  In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, cooking, and keeping a pristine flower garden until losing her sight to macular degeneration.  Edith had a heart for children and was a regular donor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Edith is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Mixon; four sons, Daniel “Danny”, David and Marty Williams, and Michael Demetrius; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Center Pigeon Baptist Church with the Pastor Shane Baker officiating.  Burial will follow at Center Pigeon Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
