Edith Valentine

January 27, 1945 — April 9, 2023

Waynesville

Edith "Nannaw" Mull Valentine, 78, of Lake Junaluska, attended the greatest sunrise service ever known when she left this world and stepped into her heavenly home to celebrate the Resurrection of her Lord and Savior, on April 9, 2023.  Born on January 27, 1945, she came to be known by several names – Mama, Sis, Aunt Sis, Aunt Edie, but the one she carried with the greatest pride was Nannaw.

She was born to the late Charley and Lela Kilby Mull and was preceded in death by her husband, Davis "Rattler" Valentine, brothers, Lloyd, Doc, Joe, Claude and Clint Mull and her sisters, Mattie Jackson, Dorothy McGaha, Nancy Shuler and Geraldine Owen.

Left to cherish her memory and remember the spiritual giant that she was are her children, Kevin (Jenny) Valentine, Kelly (Steve) Teague, Karma (Bernard) Shuford, and Kasey (Martin) Steffen and her grandchildren, Brayden (Krista), Chase, Sawyer (fiancé Natalie Davis), and Brooks Valentine, Shay (Justin) Harmon, Storm Teague, Travis and Kristi Shuford, Erik, Davis and Luke Steffen.  She is also survived by her brothers, Clyde and Mack (Donna Faye) Mull and her sister, Hermie Piper, brothers-in-law, Harry (Barbara), Ray and Larry Valentine, and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Swanger as well as numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Nannaw had an unflappable faith in Jesus Christ.  She spent many hours in prayer for her children and grandchildren and anyone else she knew in need of prayer.  If she knew you, she prayed for you.  To know Nannaw was to know two things about her – she loved Jesus with every inch of her being, and her grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life, and given even a moment of opportunity, she would tell you about one or the other.

A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Canton, NC.  Burial will follow at Crawford Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. The Reverend Matt Rhea will officiate, and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials can be made to Spring Hill Baptist Church, Mission Fund, 1918 Murray Road, Canton, NC 28716.
