Edith Irene Daves Gillett, a beloved matriarch, was born on Wednesday, May 20, 1925, in Jackson County, North Carolina. She gracefully departed this world on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Aston Park Health Care Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
Mrs. Gillett dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her family, embodying kindness and love in all that she did. She had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, often spending hours in her garden tending to vibrant flowers that brightened her surroundings. Cooking was another passion of hers, as she delighted in preparing meals that brought family together around the table, fostering cherished memories and traditions.
A devoted member of Beulah Baptist Church, Mrs. Gillett found comfort and community in her faith, which further exemplified her caring spirit and genuine nature.
She is survived by her son, Sherrill Gillett and his wife, Karen, of Canton; her granddaughter, Lindsey Buckner and her husband, Chris; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Selah. Edith's family will carry forward her legacy of warmth, kindness, and love.
In addition to her family, she will be remembered lovingly by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Roby and Dessie Bryson Daves; her husband, Arthur Gillett, who passed away in 1999; and five siblings.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Matt Pruett officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road in Canton. The family will receive friends from 11:45 until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
Edith Daves Gillett's life was a testament to love, compassion, and the simple joys of nurturing those around her. She will be profoundly missed but sweetly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
