Dwight Crumpler

Waynesville, Dwight Lamond "Hoss" Crumpler, age 73, of 47 Sloan Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 after a period of declining health due to an automobile accident in 2005. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Dwight Delaware and Kate Grasty Crumpler and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Patrick Michael Crumpler. He retired from Anton Chevrolet and later worked as a trolley driver for the Town of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Dwight loved camping and fishing and was an avid Nascar fan. He was a member of Barberville Baptist Church and attended East Waynesville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruby Shipman Crumpler; his five children, Wanda Byrd and husband, Gary, of Clyde, Lamond Crumpler of Indianapolis, IN, Jerry Crumpler of Canton, Terry Crumpler of Waynesville, and Neal Crumpler and wife, Christi, of Clyde; eight grandchildren, Amanda Franks and husband, Jeff, of Marion, NC, Melissa Byrd and Fiancé, Juancarlos Martinez, of Clyde, Jason Crumpler of Indianapolis, IN, Jessica Crumpler, of Waynesville, and Allyson, Kassendra, Nathan, and Riley Crumpler, all of Clyde; and one half brother, Ray Moody. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Josh Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Shipman, Joey Webb, Daryl Calhoun, Charlie Byrd, Doug Cleaver, and Kirk Kirkpatrick Tracy Medford and David Beck. Honorary pallbearers will be James, Danny, R.L. and G.L. Shipman, Benny Dunlap, and Tom Alexander. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all emergency personnel who helped Dwight as well as personnel of Carepartners Home Healthcare.
