Dr. Steve McMahan passed away at his home on Monday, February 20th 2023. Steve was 84 years young.
Steve was the son of the late Ralph and Pearl Harris McMahan. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Boddum McMahan and their four children. Kim DelForge and her husband Charlie. Marcie Hansen, her husband Chris and three children Cora, Edie and Mack. Julie Smith and her three children Lily, Loretta and Opal. Steve McMahan and his wife Kathleen. Steve has two sisters, Terri Ingalls and Kay Macallen.
After 30 years, Steve retired from Western Carolina University as an economics professor but what he will be remembered for is his ability to make people laugh, heard and included. He loved his family fiercely and was a dear friend to many.
Steve held a weekly bible study for 38 years at his home. The conversations were profound but the friendships made were life changing.
Time at Fripp Island, playing golf, morning ice cream with his grandchildren and wood turning (or fire starters as he would call them) will be memories we all will treasure.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in the Chapel at First Baptist Church of Waynesville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child:
