Dr. Smiley, Sr.

Shelby- Dr. Danny Earl Smiley, Sr., 57, of 1865 E. Marion Street, Shelby, NC died on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the VA Medical Center in Asheville. A native of Haywood County, son of the late John H. and Pearl Godfrey Smiley Sr. He was a long-term resident of Cleveland County. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by one sister. He received a degree from Emanuel Baptist University and served four years in the Vietnam War and was presented a Bronze Star. He was the Founder of Christian Worship Center in Henrietta, NC where he pastored for ten years. He is survived by his wife of 20 years; Debbie C. Smiley of Shelby; one daughter, Gretchen Smith, and her husband Joe, of Ohio; five sons, Danny Earl Smiley, Jr, and his wife Tanya, of Kansas; Jeremy Smiley, and his wife Kelly; Derek Smiley, Doug Corson, and Aaron Corson, all of NC; five sisters; Patsy Matthews, Linda Hulen, Carol Moore, Emily Partin, and Shirley Carey, all of NC; one brother; Johnny Smiley, of NC and seven grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Brian "Tank" Martin and John Smiley officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest cemetery with Military Honors conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home and on Monday, November 28, 2005 at residence in Shelby from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
