Lake Junaluska, Laurence "Larry" William Ross, age 83, of Harrell Drive, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015 at his residence. A native of Durham, he had resided in Haywood County for the past twenty years and was the son of the late Lawrence and Helen Lance Ross. Laurence received his education from Georgia Institute of Technology, receiving a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He began his career as a chemical engineer and educator in South Charleston, West Virginia and continued his teaching career at the Catholic University of America-Washington, DC and the University of Denver. Laurence went on to become President of Active Pest Control in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to his careers in education and engineering, Laurence was a private consultant even during his retirement. Laurence was proud of his Scottish inheritance and was a dedicated member of the 108th Scottish Highlands Honor Guard. Left to cherish his memory are many special family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the James Room of the Wells Events and Reception Center with Father Phillip Lord officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with honors being provided by the 108th Scottish Highlands Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SARGE's Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Haywood County Schools Foundation, 1230 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
