Doyce Blanton Burnette

August 12, 1926 — May 2, 2024

Blanton Burnette, 97, a member of the Haywood community, passed away on May 2, 2024, at Haywood Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on August 12, 1926, in Haywood County, North Carolina, to the late Glenlowe and Lula Mae Burnette. 
 
Blanton served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his military service, he embarked on a 42 year career at Champion International paper mill, where his commitment and work ethic shone through until he retired. He was an active member of Riverside Baptist Church, having found solace and community within its walls. His hobbies included farming, gardening, and the intricate art of working on clocks and watches. His hands were always busy creating beauty and purpose in everything he touched. Beyond his professional and personal interests, Blanton's proudest accomplishments revolved around his family. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones and leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be remembered for generations to come.
 
Blanton is reunited in peace with his father, Glenlowe Burnette; mother, Lula Mae Burnette; wife, Fannie Burnette; sisters, Lela Singleton and Barbara Kuykendall; and brother, Roy Lanning.

He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Burnette of Canton; brother, Lawrence Lanning (Judy) of Canton; granddaughters, Lauren McMullen (Lukas) and Anna Wood (Dalton); grandson Lucas Shepherd, great-granddaughter, Layla Kate.
 
The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Riverside Baptist Church in Waynesville at 2:00 p.m. followed by burial at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville. The visitation for Blanton Burnette will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Wells Funeral Home in Canton from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
 
In honoring the life of Blanton Burnette, we remember a man whose kindness and compassion touched all who knew him. May his memory live on as a beacon of hope and love in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial and donations may be made to Riverside Baptist Church, 2171 Lake Logan Rd., Waynesville, NC 28786.
