Douglas T. "Charlie" Mann, a native of Haywood County, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at the age of 77.
Below is a message shared by Mr. Mann’s brother-in-law, James Inman, following the news of Douglas "Charlie" Mann’s passing.
"Yesterday our family lost a husband, father, and grandfather. I lost my brother-in-law and close friend.
Charlie was a man who loved his family deeply and worried for their well-being constantly. He was a man driven by service to his family and his country. He volunteered for two tours of combat in Vietnam, fighting a war that many did not want anything to do with. He returned home with lifelong malaria and Agent Orange exposure. Not once in the 58 years I knew him did I ever hear him complain about his service. I also never heard him speak of the horrible things he saw and endured.
Charlie was our go-to person. If you needed help, call Charlie. If you needed support, call Charlie, and he would appear with his quiet demeanor and repair whatever the issues were. We always knew that Charlie loved us.
My last conversation with him, I told him I loved him, and he responded, "I love you and have always loved you."
Please pray for my sister Martha Mann and their children and grandchildren as they mourn the loss of Charlie.
Godspeed Charlie, thank you for being a light in an often dark world."
In honoring the personal request of Douglas "Charlie" Mann, no formal services will be held.
The care of Mr. Mann has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
