"Granny – Nanna – Granny Dot"
Waynesville, Dorothy McCracken Ross, age 86, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at her residence surrounded by family.
A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Lucy Hipps McCracken. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Taylor M. Ross, who died in 2014; two brothers, Joseph and Howell McCracken. Dorothy was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church for 61 years. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, Granny Nanna and homemaker. Her home cooked meals and delicious desserts fed many hungry farm workers and family members. As the wife of a farmer, Dorothy showed an unwavering commitment to the harvest. She was a prolific canner and could patch any piece of clothing.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Judy Green, and her husband, Kevin, of Waynesville and Cathy Parkins, and her husband, Steve, of Clyde; two sons, Steve Ross, and his wife, Elaine and Dan Ross, and his wife, Ronda, all of Waynesville; a brother, Bobby McCracken; seven grandchildren, Phillip Ross (Tabbitha), Mark Ross (Kayla), Bruce Green, Dr. Holly Parkins-Nicholson (Stephen), Clinton Parkins (Brianna), Miranda Ross and John Daniel Ross; 4 great-grandchildren, Mackenna, Joel, Carter and Brookelyn.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Shady Grove United Methodist with Reverend Jason Smith and Reverend Thomas Tout officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Garden. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Ross, Bruce Green, Mark Ross, Clinton Parkins, John Daniel Ross and nephew, Mike Swanger. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Allen Ross and Charles Worley.
A special thanks to the Jonathan Creek Fire Department First Responders, especially Claude Messer. The family would also like to acknowledge all of Dorothy’s caregivers with a special thanks to Karen Davis, Nicole Phillips and Candy Anderson.
