Clyde - We give thanks for Dorothy Reed Hyatt, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend. Dot was blessed with 90 years of a wonderful life and passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Mission Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Dot was the daughter of the late William Lawrence Reed and Mary Louise Early Reed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hyatt and a grandson, Blake Hyatt. Dot was raised by her grandmother, Ida Pless Reed and two aunts, Nellie and Nannie Reed from the age of 13 months and she lovingly cared for each in their later years.

She grew up in Canton and was employed with Champion Paper during her younger years where she met and married the love of her life, Joe Hyatt. Dot and Joe shared 64 years of a loving marriage, traveled extensively throughout the world and enjoyed several mission trips with Canton First Baptist Church. Dot was a dedicated homemaker and a wonderful cook known especially for her delicious cakes and coconut cream pies. Her love for family was immeasurable. Dot generously gave her time and resources to her children, grandchildren, friends, church and community. She was cherished by her family and her guidance and care for each will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, Alex Hyatt (Judy) of Clyde; daughter, Lynn Scarboro (Jim) of Waynesville; four grandsons, Garron Bradish, Kevin Bradish (Erica), Robbie Hyatt (Sheila), and Jason Hyatt; five great-grandchildren, Joseph Bradish, Tyler Killian, Ryleigh Hyatt, Jaxon Hyatt and Stella Hyatt; one half-brother, W.C. Reed of Denver, North Carolina; and two half-sisters, Robbie Jo Mullinax (Joe) of Greenville, South Carolina; and Patsy Switzer of Colquit, Georgia.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Court Greene officiating. Friends may call at the home of Joe and Dot.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton First Baptist Church Kitchen Fund, 74 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716 or to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 560666, Charlotte, NC 28256.
