Dorothy "Dot" Lee Harris, born on February 2, 1929, in Jellico, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Fleshers in Fairview. Dot had resided most of her life in Asheville where she lived a life rich with love and family, leaving behind cherished memories for those who were fortunate to know her. She had a devoted career that included her role as a secretary for Oakley School, along with serving as an administrator for Buncombe County School Food Service. Her commitment to her work was a testament to her caring nature and her dedication to the community.
Together with her late husband, Harvey, Dot shared a passion for creativity. She spent many joyful hours crocheting and creating ceramics, while her husband crafted wooden items to sell at the local flea market. Dot was known for her love of a hot cup of coffee and her generous spirit of feeding everyone around her, contributing to the warmth and comfort of her home. Mrs. Harris was a faithful member of Oakley United Methodist Church for 76 years.
She is survived by her three sons, Harvey Harris (Angie) of Taylors, SC, Thomas "Tommy" Lee Harris of Mills River, NC, and John "Roger" Harris of Arden, NC. Dot’s legacy continues through her five grandchildren, Heather Longley (Mike), Jason Harris, Matt Harris, Christopher Harris (Ann), and Alisha Harris; as well as her great-grandson, Rives Harris. She was also surrounded by many loving nieces and nephews who brought joy to her life through their visits and gifts of beautiful flowers that brightened her day. The family would also like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Fleshers of Fairview for their love and support for Dot Harris and her family.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas H. and Alpha Rutherford Wix, and her brothers and sisters: Clara, Lois, Eleanor, Tom, Charles, and Paul.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 30th in the Wells Chapel of Faith in Candler with the Rev. Jordan Durham officiating. The family will receive friends at the Wells Chapel of Faith from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm prior to the service. Christopher Harris, Bill Redmond, Joe Redmond, Greg Cole, Matt Harris, and Jason Harris will serve as pallbearers.

Dorothy "Dot" Lee Harris will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness and creativity will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
