Balsam, Doris McCall Beck, 90, went Home to be with her Lord, Saturday, June 24, 2023.

 

She was a daughter of the late James Lewis and Elsie Middleton McCall.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Samuel Willard Beck; granddaughters, Bailey Leann Beck and Emily Beck Snowden; son-in-law, J.D. Sorrells; daughter-in-law, Pauline Stiles Beck; and brothers, Willard and Edwin McCall.

 

She will be greatly missed by her children, Elaine Hyatt (Jerry), of Robbinsville, Andy Beck (Brenda), of Balsam, Walter Beck (Lynette), of Bay St. Louis, MS, Lewis Beck of Sylva; Jane Arrington (Benny), of Saunook and David Beck (Angie) of Waynesville.  She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.  She was known as Mamaw to countless others.

 

She is also survived by her sister, Jackie McCall Gentry; and brothers, Boyce, Sid and Max (Donna) McCall, all of Balsam, and Bud McCall (Vivian) of Port St. Lucie, FL; sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Katschman, of Newport News, VA; Donna F. McCall, of St. Augustine, FL, and Helen McCall, of Balsam, NC; aunts Ruth and Betty McCall, of Waynesville and; uncle, Eugene (Edith) McCall, of Hot Springs.

 

She was a faithful member of Balsam Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, choir member, and on numerous committees.  She especially enjoyed growing and arranging beautiful flowers for the church and planning and providing meals for both the church family and people in the community.  Her greatest passion was sharing the love of Jesus Christ with everyone she met.

 

A special thanks to all the staff of Skyland Care Center for the excellent care given to "Mamaw Dot".

 

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Balsam Missionary Baptist Church cemetery with Reverend Greg Cullen officiating.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Balsam Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. J.D. Grant and Pastor Lee Brooks officiating.

The care of Mrs. Beck has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
