Donald Thompson

Waynesville, Donald Allen Thompson, 76, of Crawford Road, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Carl W. and Ann Cagle Thompson and was also preceded in death by a twin brother, Ronald Thompson. Donald was employed at Champion International for 40 years, retiring in 1999. He was also an avid car collector and owned several used car lots. He was owner/operator of Parkway Inn in Maggie Valley for several years. He attended Clyde Church of God. Donald is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sheila Ledford Thompson; a daughter, Sandra King (David) of Bryson City; two sons, Ricky Thompson (Bonnie) and Bryan Thompson (Lisa) of Waynesville; a sister, Rachel Parker (Gene) of Waynesville; two brothers, William "Bill" Thompson of Clyde and Douglas Thompson (Arunee) of Charleston, South Carolina; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Nations officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
