A dedicated employee of Home Depot for the last 18 years, he previously contributed his talents to Bell Sysco Food Service. Throughout his career, Donald was not only known for his hard work and commitment but also for his kind-hearted nature and the warmth he brought to those around him.
One of Donald's most telling characteristics was his cheerful and caring demeanor. He was a loving husband to his wife, Terry Rogers Rice, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 35 years. Donald had a great sense of humor and was always ready to share a laugh or a song with his wife holding his hand. His passion for music was a significant part of his joyful spirit, which was evident in his interactions with his lifelong friends and family.
In the course of his life Donald enjoyed basketball, baseball, coaching, and running. He fostered a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie that left a lasting impact on those he taught and played alongside. His devotion to family and friends was unparalleled, often taking time to nurture the bonds with those he loved.
Donald is survived by his wife, Terry Rogers Rice; brother, David Hunter Rice (Tessa) of Canton; his brother-in-law, Ricky Rogers (Becky) of Asheville; and his sister-in-law, Aretha Fannon (Eric) of Candler. He is also survived by his cherished nephews, Beauford Rice (Jennifer), Kaleb Rice (Brittney), Cale Rogers (Cassie), and Vince Rogers (Michelle); his beloved nieces, Crystal Reece (Chantrey) and Lydia Belt (Matt); as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Zade Rice and Joann P. Blalock Rice, whose love shaped the man he became.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.
