Dillard Henson

Canton – Dillard John Henson, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Allen Cornelius and Ollie Parris Henson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Dewey, Florin, and Cecil Henson; and two sisters, Mabel Reece and Norabell Pless. Dillard was a United States Marine veteran having served in Korea. He retired from Dayco International and later opened Henson's Florist and operated for 25 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Canton where he was a former Deacon and choir member. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Sanford Henson; one brother, William "Bill" Henson and his wife, Edith, of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Friday, January 3, 2014 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Charles Dean and Reverend Jay Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
