“Precious Dad”

Waynesville – Dillard H Grant, 97, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Harris Regional Medical Center.

Dillard was a native of Swain County and a son of the late John and Cora Dehart Grant.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Waitsel (Chris), John Talmadge, Ray, Odell (Jean) and Willard (Carrye) Grant; two sisters, Hazel (Carrol Lindsay) and Helen (Frank Dills); a brother-in-law, James H. Passmore and one great-great-grandson, Weston James.  Dillard was a Corporal in the United States Army-Air Force, having served during World War II.  In 1986, he retired from the United States Post Office with 32 years of service.  Dillard was also a dedicated Christian and a member of Center Pigeon Baptist Church.

He is survived by his bride of 74 years, Iva Lee Passmore Grant; three daughters, Regenia Deaver (Bryan) of Canton, Sandra Long (William) of Toccoa, Georgia and Theresa Sutton (Rob) of Sylva; three sons, Reverend J. D. Grant (Judy) of Sylva, Dennis Grant (Darlene) of Berea, Kentucky and Danny Grant (Sherri) of Fletcher; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Lenna Gibson of Archdale and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Sarah.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Center Pigeon Baptist Church with the Reverend Scott Poole and, Dillard’s son, Reverend J. D. Grant officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Army.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing will be observed.
