Diana Bishop
Thompson
Nov 8, 1945 — Jun 17, 2026
Diana Bishop Thompson, a dedicated Registered Nurse and compassionate Hospice Coordinator, passed away peacefully at her home in Candler, North Carolina, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on November 8, 1945, in Asheville, North Carolina.
A proud graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University, Diana earned her Bachelor's degree in nursing, launching a career marked by unwavering commitment to patient care and community service. Throughout her professional life, she served both Mission Hospital and Mountain Area Hospice, now CarePartners, where her work deeply impacted the lives of countless patients and families navigating end-of-life care.
Diana’s commitment to caregiving extended beyond her professional role into her personal passions. She was a gifted church pianist for Snow Hill United Methodist Church for over three decades, filling her community with music and comfort. Her interests were diverse and richly enjoyed: an avid reader of all things and recipe collector, a skilled crocheter, and a passionate horse rider. Additionally, Diana was known for her steadfast enthusiasm for card games, particularly Canasta and Pinochle, frequently playing late into the early morning with cherished friends.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of nearly 59 years, Joseph C. Thompson; their daughters, Amy Thompson and Julie Thompson Williams (Bart); and her treasured grandchildren, Madison Elisabeth, Mo Alexandra, and Allison Paige. Diana was preceded in death by her parents, James L. Bishop, who passed in 1998, and Karene Hutchison Bishop, who passed in 2014.
A private graveside funeral service will be held at a later date.
Diana Bishop Thompson’s life was a testament to devotion—both in her vocation and her family. Her legacy of compassion, skill, and communal spirit will be remembered fondly by her family, friends, and those she served throughout her distinguished career. "If this obituary is lacking, it's because Diana wasn't here to micromanage it."
The care of Mrs. Thompson has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
