Canton, Dewey Liner, Jr. (Bud) age 84 passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on October 10, 2019.
Bud was born October 1, 1935 to the late Dewey Liner and Pearl Swanson Liner. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, David Rodney Liner.
Mr. Liner devoted his entire life to following Christ and studying God’s word. We give thanks to the life he lived and the blessings he brought to all who knew him. A selfless and loving man he enjoyed giving back to his community.
He delivered the first Meals on Wheels in the Canton area when the program began in 1975. He continued to deliver meals for the next 35 years. He volunteered with Haywood Christian Ministries and was part of the senior leadership team of Haywood Community Connections. He also enjoyed volunteering at Camp Living Water. He was an active member of the North Hominy Community Club, serving as past President. He and his wife Janice were honored with “Hometown Heroes” award in 2009 for their outstanding community service. He was a member of Post 61 Canton of the American Legion, being proud to be a United States Army Veteran.
His hobbies included teaching his kids and grandkids how to fly-fish, hike and camp. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, riding horses, and studying his Bible.
He graduated from Canton High School in 1954. He retired from Champion International with 44 years of service as an electrician.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Janice Wilde Liner. Two sons, Darin Liner (Teresa), and Daniel Liner, both of Canton; two daughters, Kim Clark (Ronnie) of Canton, and Tami Beam (Mark) of Fenwick Island, Delaware; and a sister, Wanda Shoemaker, of Canton.
The joy of his life were his eight grandchildren. Amanda, Brooke and Chloe Beam, Jordan Liner, Cody Liner, Dalton Liner, Emily Liner and Logan Clark. They learned to love the Lord because of their grandfather’s life lessons and Christian example. He looked forward to Sunday afternoons when family, friends and his grandchildren gathered in his home for Papaw’s Bible study.
A special appreciation to Jennings Worley, Clayton Davis and Bill Johnson for their Christian love and fellowship throughout his life. Pallbearers will be Jordan, Cody, Dalton Liner, Logan and Ronnie Clark, Kenny and Jordan Holbert and Bill Johnson.
