Dewey Franklin

Waynesville, Dewey J. Franklin, age 84, of 109 Raytown Heights, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at MedWest Haywood. A native of Erwin, Tennessee, he had resided in Haywood County since 1967 and was the son of the late Dewey and Thelma Lee Price Franklin. He was a 27-year veteran of the US Navy where he served as Chief Quartermaster and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Dewey was a life member of the VFW, DAV, and Military Order of the Cooties and was responsible for the organization of the Order of Purple Heart #844 in Haywood County. Dewey was the owner of Mountain Valley Accounting and a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Douglas Franklin; one daughter, Kathleen Franklin of Memphis, Tennessee; two sons, Michael E. Nelson of Waynesville and Bradley E. Nelson of Canton; and two grandchildren, Travis and Kimberly Stamey. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the home.
