Dewey Ray Barbee, born on May 28, 1942, in Cullman, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at the Solace Center, with his loving wife by his side. His journey through life was characterized by devotion, passion, and a zest for the simple joys that life offers.

Dewey dedicated many years of his life to his career, notably retiring from his position as a groundworker at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. His commitment to his work reflected an unwavering dedication that he carried into every aspect of his life.

A true car enthusiast, Dewey cherished the moments spent at local Cruise-ins, showcasing his classic car with pride. These gatherings were not merely events for him; they were celebrations of camaraderie and passion that brought together fellow enthusiasts. Beyond cars, he found joy in fishing and bowling.

Family was at the heart of Dewey's existence. He was blessed with a loving wife, Jenny Parris Barbee, with whom he shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. Their bond was a testament to love, partnership, and enduring friendship. In addition to his beloved wife, Dewey is survived by his cherished sisters, Mary Lou Plemmons, Fay Hyatt, and Linda Hyatt, as well as his brothers Jerry Barbee (Nell) and Terry Barbee (Karen). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Dewey’s legacy is one of love and connection, marked by the enduring relationships he cherished deeply. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Barbee and William Barbee, who will be remembered alongside him as a part of his rich family tapestry.
