Demsey Whitaker, Sr.

Demsey Dee Whitaker, Sr., 87, of Candler passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 at John F. Keever, Jr. following a period of declining health.

A native of Missouri, Mr. Whitaker had lived in Salt Lake City, Utah prior to moving to North Carolina in 1992. He was the son of the late Raymond Whitaker, Sr., Clara Whitaker-Barton and stepfather, Leamon Barton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his children, Ronald Belcher, Desiree Whitaker Belcher, Wilburn Belcher and Eugene D. Whitaker.

He proudly served in the US Marines for six years and in the US Army for five years.

His survivors include his children, Demsey (Kerry), Brandi, Nicolle (Bruce), Wyndi, James, Virginia (Frank), Chris, Patrick, Leamon and Holly; 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Mr. Whitaker will be interred at Redwood Memorial Cemetery in West Jordan, UT. Private family services are planned for a later date.

The care of Mr. Whitaker has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
