Demetrios George Pourlos

Maggie Valley, Dr. Demetrios G. Pourlos, 69, passed away Saturday October 7, 2023 at his home.

Demetrios was born on December 22, 1953 in Greece to the late Dr. George and Paraskeri Petsa Pourlos.

Born in Athens Greece, Demetrios came to the US on a student Visa.  He graduated from Appalachian State University and Chapel Hill School of Dentistry with honors in 1984. Dr. Pourlos had his dentistry office for 34 years in Charlotte. 

He loved to ride mountain bikes and was a competitive windsurfer, winning numerous awards in both sports.  His most loved pastime was traveling and most of all was spending time with family.

Demetrios is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nona Ross Pourlos.  Two daughters, Leslie Watson Wood (Brian) and Amy Watson Bruner); Four Grandchildren, Dillon and Chloe Wood, Jacob and Levi Bruner; twin brothers, Savvas and Vasilli Pourlos, one niece and two nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at McEwen Funeral Home, Mint Hill Chapel, Charlotte, NC.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Haywood County School Foundation, Class of 1973 Scholarship Fund, 1233 N. Main Street, Waynesville, NC  28786
