David Russell

Waynesville – David Edwin Russell, 62, of the Bethel community, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at his residence.

David was a native of Haywood County and a son of the late Jack and Helen Price Russell.  He was a 1979 graduate of Pisgah High School and a member of Riverside Baptist Church.  David worked at Pactiv Evergreen as a crew leader in the pulp mill, and many in the community will remember him as a voice of WPTL Radio for 23 years.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Judy Harkins Russell; a brother, Ronnie Russell (Margaret) of Clyde; sister, Freda Russell Morgan (Tim) of Franklin; nephew, Matthias Russell of Clyde; and a niece, Tara Russell Carver and son, Nathanael, of Clyde.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Riverside Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Frazier, Reverend Dr. Kim Milner, and Reverend Zachary Williams officiating.  Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church Community Missions Fund, 2171 Lake Logan Road, Waynesville, NC  28786.

The care of Mr. Russell has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
