David Owenby

Canton - David Lee Owenby, age 71, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at his residence.

A native of Habersham County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Jay Samuel and Hallie Mashburn Owenby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Gail Owenby, who passed away in 2014; and two brothers, Melvin and Marvin Owenby. He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He retired from Haywood Oil Company with 30 years of service. David enjoyed coon hunting, and fishing and was a member of Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church.

David is survived by a daughter, Traci Henderson and husband, Daryl of Canton; a son Michael Owenby and friend, Daffety Ledford of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; four sisters, Betty Smith and husband, Charles of Canton, Rosa Brown and husband, Albert of Canton Hazel Macemore and husband, John of Waynesville and Luzean Russell of Canton; two brothers, Calvin Owenby of Canton and Marshall Owenby and wife, Ruth of Canton; two grandchildren, Bailey and Tucker Henderson; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Pastor Jake Cagle officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian and Clayton Russell, Stacy Owenby, Dee McCall, Josh and Andrew Toney.
