Darlene Marie Parrott, a beloved and cherished matriarch, went Home to her Lord and Savior June 2, 2025, at the age of 77, at home while surrounded by her beautiful, loving family.
Born on September 15, 1947, in Buncombe County, she was a luminous spirit whose warmth and kindness touched the hearts of many. The daughter of the late James Eugene Smith and Frances Hill Smith, Darlene grew up surrounded by the love of her family, a nurturing foundation that would serve as the bedrock for her own family life. She had two brothers, Eugene and Arnold Smith, who were an integral part of her childhood and life, though they now precede her in death. She was also reunited in Heaven with her son-in-law Roger Gossett.
Darlene attended A/C Reynolds High School, where her vibrant personality began to flourish. Her legacy is woven from her years as an outstanding cook—her coconut pies were not only delicious, but famed throughout her community, friends, and family, leaving all who tasted them eager for more. Darlene possessed a remarkable talent for bringing joy to others, constantly striving to ensure the happiness of those around her. She was the ultimate nurturer, guiding her family with love and competence, always acting as a mediator and keenly aware of the needs and emotions of others.
For 58 years, Darlene shared her life with her devoted husband, Vernon Parrott, who remained her loving companion until the end. Together, they cultivated a family filled with love and laughter. Darlene is survived by their children, Kimberley McCraw and her husband Trent, Tammy Gossett, and Mark Parrott and his wife Deborah. Her legacy lives on in her cherished grandchildren: Jessica Shelton and her husband, Kyle; Tyler Gossett and his partner, Taylor Hensley; Russell McCraw; and Caitlyn Parrott. Darlene's heart swelled with pride and joy for her great-grandchildren: Reese, Luke, Levi Shelton, and Hartley McCraw, who were the embodiment of her love and the joy that she diligently devoted herself to in life.
Family was the core of Darlene's existence. She was not merely a great mother; she was a bedrock of strength and devotion—a true caretaker who ensured that every family member felt loved and appreciated. The essence of her character, her hard work, care, and relentless pursuit of happiness for her family, will undoubtedly echo through the generations she leaves behind.
The celebration of Darlene's rich life will take place on June 8, 2025, with a visitation from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Wells Funeral Home in Candler, North Carolina.
