Canton – Danny Lee Slaughter, 79, stepped into Heaven on October 28, 2021 at 7:50pm at Memorial Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC.

Danny was a native of Indiana and was born on May 15, 1942 in Peru, Indiana. He lived in Converse, Indiana until 1973. He was the son of Richard (Dick) Slaughter and Goldie Evelyn (Stanger) Slaughter. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Eaden Slaughter and a brother Richard Stephen Slaughter and his wife Reta Mae (Weeks) Slaughter.

Danny was a graduate of Oak Hill High School, class of 1961 in Converse, Indiana. He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Danny graduated from Georgia College, class of 1975 in Milledgeville, GA. In 2002, he retired from Haywood County School System. Danny was a beloved classroom teacher, teaching at Bethel Elementary School, Morning Star Elementary School and Canton Middle School. He was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church.

Danny truly loved his family and his friends. He was a devoted teacher who loved his students and was a father figure to many. He loved his God, he loved the flag, and he loved his country. He was a humble man, always thinking of others before himself.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patty (Patricia Ann Lytle) Slaughter; one daughter, Carie Jeanne Slaughter (Phillip) of Canton; two sons, Darren Bryce Slaughter (Jackie) of Candler and Curt Allen Slaughter (Kim) of Canton. One sister, Barbara Smith (Bob) of Converse, IN. Four grandchildren, Michael Lee Slaughter (Victoria), Samantha Holland (Levi), Bailey Jewel Slaughter and Adison Taylor Spivey. One great-grandson, Easton Lee Holland. Brother in laws, Earl Hartwell (Dawn) of Bluffton, IN; Bill Lytle (Tanya) of Waynesville, NC and Robert Lytle (Debbie) of Gulfport, MS. As well as many nieces and nephews.

At Danny’s request, no services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Road Baptist Church, 2701 Soco Road, Maggie Valley, NC 28751; Shriners Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607; or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
