Canton – Daniel Douglas “Doug” Stevens “JR”, 27, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019.
He was a native of Durham County and had lived in Haywood County most of his life and was the son of Tim and Julie Stevens. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, A. D. Locklear; paternal grandmother, Janey R. Stevens, and maternal grandmother, Dean E. Williams. He was employed with Tennoca Construction Company. Doug enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In 2009, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest achievement attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. Music was an important part of Doug’s life, having learned to play the trumpet, and he enjoyed listening to various music.
He is survived by his wife, Shelby Stevens and their daughter, Olivia Graye Stevens of Canton; two brothers, Brandon Stevens and Todd Stevens (Jennifer); two sisters, Suzie Inman (Jeremy) and Kelly Henderson (Roy) all of Canton; maternal grandmother, Judy Locklear of Rougemont, North Carolina; paternal grandfather, Guy Stevens of Clyde; best friend, Joshua Gurbal of Charleston, South Carolina; and many many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 9, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Nicole Jones officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
