Cromer "Red" Stafford, age 76, of 39 Foxbriar Drive died Friday, June 20, 2008, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood and Buncombe counties and the son of Pearl Stafford of Canton and the late Virgil Stafford. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Williams and his buddy "Benny". He retired in 1992 from Sears with 40 years of service. He was a member of Candler House of Prayer. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Barbara Wallin Stafford; two sons, Charles "Charlie" Stafford and Rickey Davis both of Candler; three daughters, Elaine Cooper and her husband, Steve, of Candler, Sonya Price and her husband, Greg, of Asheville, and Joan Cutshall and her husband, Dan, of Candler; a brother, Roy Stafford and his wife, Jackie, of Greenville, NC; nine grandchildren; 13 great-granchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Chuck Waldrup officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
