Cora Nelson

Franklin – Cora Lee Chastain Nelson, 84, formerly of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Grandview Manor Care Center in Franklin.

A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Hattie Miller Chastain.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Nelson, who died in 2009; a son, Ricky Nelson, who died in 1983; five sisters, Minnie Bell Cabe Swartz, Willie Parker, Ruth Owens, Faye Cabe and Alice Marsengill; and one brother, Luke Chastain.  Cora worked as a clerk for Eckerd Drugs for many years and was a member of Full Gospel Baptist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Eloise Rogers of Satolah, Georgia; two brothers, David “Buck” Chastain and wife, Shelby, of Belton, South Carolina and Tom Chastain and wife, Sharon, of Otto, North Carolina; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Michael Chastain and Reverend Timothy Hayes officiating.  Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
