Maggie Valley, Clyde Ray "Jimmy" Beaver, age 83, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Smoky Mountain Health & Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Clyde Ray and Elnore Simms Beaver. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Clyde Ray "Dick" Beaver; and a sister, Velma Fulbright. Jimmy retired from the Asheville Police department with 36 years of service as a Major in the Detective Division. He is a member and former Sunday School Teacher of Maggie Valley United Methodist Church. Jimmy enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, woodworking and riding and operating tractors.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane Phelps Beaver; three grandchildren, Carey Beaver Pace (Shawn), James Beaver (Miriam) and Dana Beaver Smith (Kevin); and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Richard L. Buff officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
