Sylva-Clarence ''Curly'' Mathis, age 66, died Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
He was a native of Haywood County and the son of the late Robert ''Bob'' and Sarah Lanning Mathis. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lula Bell Swanger.
He retired from A. C. Lawrence Company with 15 years of service and from Harris Regional Hospital with 11 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and mechanics.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, Mae Mintz Mathis, he is survived by two daughters, Carol Cagle and her husband, Terrell of Sylva and Patsy Gunter and her husband, Jeff of Whittier; a son, Ricky Mathis and his wife, Debbie of Waynesville; four sisters, Ruby Parker and Edna Ledford both of Gastonia and Lucy Gaddis and Roeina Smith both of Waynesville; a brother, Ralph Mathis of Waynesville as well as four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Frank Brooks and James Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
