Waynesville, Charles Kenneth Wike, Sr. also known to friends as Bill or Kenny, age 88, went to Heaven on Friday, April 28, 2017 at his residence. After a childhood spent by the river in East la Porte, North Carolina, Bill graduated from Western Carolina University. Upon graduation, he resided in Waynesville for the rest of his life. Bill retired as a chemist at Dayco after 40 years of dedicated service. He was an avid photographer and traveler. He loved memories of his logistical masterpiece, which entailed taking his wife and four children on a five week camping trip across the country. Everything Bill did was a reflection of his strong Christian faith. Bill was the son of the late Thomas and Irene Bryson Wike. He was married to the late Dorothy Tilley Wike for 54 years. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Wike Lanier; and a brother, Edwin Ray Wike. Bill was Poppy or Daddy-O to his children, Kenna Lou Wiggins (Jon), Charles (Sue) and Melissa Montoya (Van); and pops to his son-in-law, Randall Lanier; he was proud of his grandchildren, Brian Baumann (Dasha), Emily Wiggins, Amy Hughes (Justin), Laurel Ip (Michael), Sarah Cleary (James), Caroline Wike, and Joshua Montoya; toddler great-grandchildren, Elliot Hughes and Evan Ip will carry on his legacy. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Mr. Clayton Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Wike Cemetery in Cullowhee. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
