Charles “Charlie” Frank Teague, Sr., 75, of the White Oak Community passed away March 24, 2026, in the home he built with the love of his life, his devoted wife of fifty-one years, Mary Ann Teague.
Charlie was born on December 26, 1950, and lived most of his life in the White Oak Community, where he farmed, raised his family, and professionally was a mechanic, who could fix almost anything with a motor. Charlie took pride in coaching basketball to his sons Charles and Jeff, as well as the youth in the local community, where he led his teams to several championships. He was an avid and skilled sportsman, with a love for rabbit and deer hunting. He also cherished his time bear hunting with his son Jeff and grandson Lucas along with many close friends and family. Charlie loved his fishing trips to Dale Hollow Tennessee with his son Doyle, and fishing the Nantahala River with his best friend, Mike Payne. He was a former board member and president of Fines Creek Community Association where he spearheaded the annual Blue Grass Jam alongside his cousin and close friend David Teague for many years. Charlie was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church all his life and he possessed a strong faith in his Lord and Savior. Charlie worked 30 years with the Department of Transportation where he started driving a gas truck then proceeded to become a mechanic and upon retirement holding the Mechanic Supervisors position.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sherrill Lee and Estalee Teague, infant brother, Sherrill Jr. and sister-in-law, Linda Teague. He is also proceeded by his lifelong best friend Mike Payne.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Teague. A brother, Jake Teague, sister, Sharon Morris (Jerry) brother-in-law, Martin Ledford (Kathy). Three sons, Charles Jr. (Pam), Jeffrey and Doyle Teague, five grandchildren, Samantha, Lucas (Tracy), Nic (Kallie), Jaizminn and Kassandra as well as six great-grandchildren Morgan, Maddox, Mason, Josie, Andreya and Adelynn.
Charlie’s greatest joy in life was being a devoted husband to his wife, Mary Ann, a proud dad, and a loving papaw. He found happiness in life’s simplest moments, working in the garden with Mary Ann, passing along his work ethic and love of the outdoors to his sons, grandsons and great grandsons, as well as doting over his “baby girl” Samantha. He took immense pride in being a “Daddy” and a “Papaw” to all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had an especially close bond to “his boys” Maddox and Mason.
The Visitation for Charlie will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and one-hour prior Sunday at the church. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at White Oak Baptist Church with the Reverend Josh Fields and Reverend Kenny Banks officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles, Jeff, Doyle, Lucas and Nic Teague, Michael Payne and Caleb Henry. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell and David Teague, Jerry Morris and Doug Payne.
