Charles returned home to Waynesville at the request of his father, where he assumed the role of president of Talman’s Bookstore, a position he held with dedication and pride. Charles' vision and dedication extended beyond Waynesville, as he assumed ownership and leadership of all retail operations within the family business, including locations in Asheville and Franklin. His legacy in retail and office solutions continues to be remembered by the many communities he served and people he employed throughout his career.
Charles was deeply involved in the Waynesville community, serving as president of the Jaycees and pioneering school zone safety programs that earned him accolades. Under his leadership, the association flourished, enhancing educational seminars, and raising legal awareness among its 1100 members of office products manufacturers, wholesalers, and local dealers.
Upon retiring as president of Talman Office Supplies, Charles and his beloved wife Kaye and business partner renovated the office building in downtown Waynesville, preserving its historic charm. In retirement, they ventured into real estate with Apple Realty, which sparked a new moving business for many of their clients.
Charles’ passion for classic cars was a defining aspect of his life, bringing him immense joy and fostering enduring friendships.
