Charles Prentiss, Iii

Maggie Valley, Charles Brewster Prentiss, III of Maggie Valley, NC, died on September 13, 2011 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Charles Brewster Prentiss, Jr. and Julia Middleton Prentiss. Bruce graduated from the Citadel in 1951 with a B.A. degree in business. After serving in Korea as an Aircraft maintenance officer and test pilot, he purchased C.B. Prentiss & Company from his father. In 1959 he opened Charleston Drapery Service. Bruce was a member and past commodore of the Charleston Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Ortmann Prentiss; two daughters, Eugenia P. Craggs and her husband, Kevin W. Craggs, of Summersville, S.C. and Jennifer M. Prentiss, of Charleston, S.C.; two grandsons, William P. Murray and his wife, Carlie C. Murray, of Goose Creek, S.C.; and James M. Preston, Jr. and his wife, Jordan G. Preston, of Summerville, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Isabelle Grace Preston and Gabrielle Faith Preston and a sister, Julia Blake Hagen of Charleston, S.C. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Charleston, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
