Waynesville

Waynesville – Charles Danny Ogburn, 68, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at his residence.

Charles was the son of the late Charles Hunter and Joyce Laylon Turlington Ogburn.  Following graduation from high school, Charles received an AA Degree from NC State, was a proud Wolfpack alum, and began his lifelong love of farming.  Along with his love of growing tobacco and soybeans, he loved utilizing the farm equipment it took to produce bountiful crops from his fields.  Charles was not shy to brag about his love for John Deere equipment.  Additionally, he enjoyed raising hogs and was the recipient of numerous awards through the North Carolina State Fair for hog production.  Following the downturn of tobacco production, Charles chose Haywood County to make his home where he has resided for the past 23 years.  His special cousin, Mark Taylor, was instrumental in helping him locate in Waynesville.  Charles attended Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church where he developed many friendships.  Within the past four years his health began to decline.  Throughout his illness, many individuals assisted Charles with comfort, care, and friendship.  Charles would want to acknowledge Ryan and Michelle McElroy, Richard and Meg Reeves, Don and Jan Nesbitt, Billy and Denise Shepherd, Mike and Susan Ferguson, Greg and Anne Banks and their son, Silas, Shayne Branson, Alex and Sam Smith, and Jerry Seay.

Charles is survived by a daughter, Whitney Green and her husband, Billy, of Benson, North Carolina; two sisters, Gloria Dare Barbour and her husband, Ronald, of Benson, and Sue Lu Wellons and her husband, Bobby, of Linden, North Carolina; three granddaughters, Jordan Lynn Green, and twins, Dylan Ava and Vivian Rae Green; and a special cousin, John Mark Taylor of Waynesville.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Firewood Ministry, P.O. Box 611, Waynesville, NC  28786.

The care of Mr. Ogburn has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Waynesville.
