Charles Allen Jenkins, a dedicated and beloved member of the Canton community, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Smoky Mountain Health & Rehabilitation. He was born on August 4, 1932, in Haywood County, North Carolina.
Charles led a remarkable life characterized by hard work and commitment. After graduating from Clyde High School in 1951, he went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy. Charles later joined Champion International where he dedicated 39 years of service before retiring in 1997.
In addition his professional accomplishments, Charles cherished his family deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Carrie Simmons Jenkins; his beloved wife, Nancy Mooney Jenkins, who died in 1992; his son Charles Andrew "Chuck" Jenkins, who died in 2015; two brothers; and two sisters.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Kelly Jenkins of Canton; and a daughter-in-law, Angie Jenkins of Canton. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Sherry Jenkins of Bryson City and Sandra Mooney Barnes of Mississippi. Charles leaves behind a legacy through his two grandchildren, Blake Jenkins (Sara), Joanie Jenkins (Dwight Cheary); two great-grandchildren, Lincoln Jenkins and Karsyn Cheary. Additionally, he is survived by bonus great-grandchildren, Madison Ballard, Kameron Cheary, Kinsley Cheary, Emily Jeter, and Karter Cheary. Charles was also cherished by a special family, Angie Rathbone, Dalton Rathbone, Jonathan Morris, Ryder Morris; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service to honor Charles will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Canton Wesleyan Church. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at the church.
Charles will be deeply missed by all who knew him but will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness and generosity. May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy lives on through the love shared with family and friends.
