Candler – Charles Clifford “Charlie” Brown, 84, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at Stonecreek Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Charlie was a native of Buncombe County and a son of the late Jerome and Virginia Sharpe Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles “Chuck” Brown, Jr. Charlie was a United States Air Force veteran and participated in the Operation Hardtack during his service time. He took part in 34 atomic bomb tests. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and boating on Fontana Lake and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Charlie was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation as field supervisor for 42 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeanette Mauney Brown; two sons, Mike Brown (Marla) and Phil Brown; six grandchildren, Anastasia Brown, Curtis Everhart, Jeremy Brown (Bethany), Bryan Brown, Ross Brown (Spencer Ann), and Mackenzie Brown; and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021 in the Wells Chapel of Faith at Forest Lawn with Pastor Eric Hill officiating. Inurnment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the chapel.
