Canton – Cecil James Miller, 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Olen and Viola Roberts Miller.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Hare; a brother, Richard Craig Miller; and a grandson, Kenny Lynn Johnson.  Cecil was a United States Navy veteran having served in World War II from 1944 to 1946 and was a devout member of Mountain View Church of God.  He retired from Champion International with 38 years of service and loved to work in his garden and with various crafts.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Louise Medford Miller; one daughter, Karen Miller Johnson (Kenneth) of Canton; one son, Russell Miller of Statesville; a sister, Jean Howard of Canton; three grandsons, Ryan Miller (Jessica) Shane Miller (Maggie), all of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Kaleb Johnson (Jerusha), of Canton; five granddaughters, Tiffany Taylor (Zeb), of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kendra Johnson and Keilah Ferguson, both of Canton, Cheridan Miller and Charlotte Miller, both of Statesville; five great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with the Reverend Mike Hicks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in memory of Cecil to the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, P.O. Box 14608,, Greensboro, NC  27415-4608.
