Carroll Matthews, Sr.

Carroll Dale Matthews, Sr., age 76, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Reverend Grover Stringfield Matthews and Rhoda Irilla McCall Matthews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Matthews; and three sisters, Kitty Worley, Lois and Betty Matthews. Carroll worked at Taylor Instrument for 28 years and also worked for ACE Hardware and drove a Federal Express Truck. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved his family. Carroll was a United States Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Sue Buckner Matthews; three sons, Carroll Dale Matthews, Jr. and his wife, Tara, of Arden, Tracy Lane Matthews and his wife, Kristie, of Ocala, FL, and James David Key of Hendersonville; one daughter, Connie Jo Mozelewski and her husband, John, of Canton; five sisters, Lazelle Sampson of Leicester, Lucy Wooten of Newton, Dorothy Huffman and Judy Hipps of Canton, and Donna Worley of Marshall; one brother, Homer Matthews of Claremont; and one granddaughter, Alyssa Matthews of Ocala, Fl. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Furman Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at Pisgah View Memorial Park at a later date.
