Carroll Smathers

Canton-Carroll Eugene Smathers-80, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Brian Center of Weaverville.

He was a native of Haywood County where he lived most of his life and was a son of the late Girdwood and Fannie Abel Smathers. He retired from Dayco International with over 40 years service and was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II as a member of General Macarthur's staff in Australia and the Philippines.

He is survived by several cousins.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2002 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Cecil Fox officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 3 Louisiana Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
