Landrum, South Carolina, Carl "Mackey" Smith, age 69, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018.

Mackey was born and raised in Williamstown, New Jersey and was the son of the late Thomas and Katherine Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by daughter, Melanie Joy Smith; brother, Thomas "Butch" Smith; brother-in-law, James "Jimmy" Cogdill.

Mackey left behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 37 years, Lucille Cogdill Smith; daughter, Tammy Grize, and her husband ,Chris, in which he lived with for the last 3 ½ years in Landrum, South Carolina; daughter, Brandie Smith Dawson, and her husband, Scott, of Bel Air, Maryland; son, Carl Smith, and his wife Charity, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; brother, William "Billy" Smith, of Franklinville, New Jersey; a very special aunt, Ruth Smith, of Monroeville, New Jersey; six granddaughters, Carlie, Cayla, Tabitha, Tori, Ella and Baby Mackie; two grandsons, Seth and C.J.

Mackey loved his children and grandchildren very much. Mackey had many friends and was loved by all. Mackey's heart and soul belonged to his family and he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Phillip Hurst officiating and family remembrance provided by Carl Smith, Jr. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by United States Navy and VFW Post 5202. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
