C. Leon Turner

C. Leon Turner, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025. Born on November 2, 1939, in Lincolnton, North Carolina, to the late, Wesley Lee Turner and Lillie Victoria Dellinger Turner. Leon was a beacon of love and hard work in the community of Waynesville, where he dedicated his life to both family and profession.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, James Lee Turner, whose memory lived on in the hearts of all who loved him.

Leon attended NC State University and was a graduate of UNC-Asheville. His career was marked by significant achievements, notably as the owner of Turner & Son Clothing on Main Street in Waynesville. Through his passion for fashion and commitment to excellence, he became a beloved figure in the local business scene. In addition to his entrepreneurial spirit, he served as the Executive Director of Economic Development in both Haywood and Granville Counties, a role that showcased his dedication to fostering growth and opportunity in his community.

Above all else, Leon was a devoted family man. He married his high school sweetheart, June Marie Gaddis Turner, in 1958, a union that flourished for nearly seven decades. Their love story became a model for those around them, illustrating the power of companionship and devotion through the years. His pride in his family was evident in everything he did, and he found immense joy in the accomplishments of his sons, Rusty (Ginny) Turner of Waynesville, and David Turner of Brevard.

Leon took great delight in the laughter and love of his grandchildren, including Julia (Scott) Brown, Zane Turner, Carson Turner, and Jordan Turner. His heart swelled with joy at the sight of his great-grandchildren, Madaline and Jack Brown, who brought an extra sparkle to his eyes. He also leaves behind a brother, Steve Turner.

In times of joy and sorrow, Leon's warm spirit and gentle smile will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His dedication to his family, his community, and his lifelong work will remain a source of inspiration, reminding us to cherish our loved ones and our passions as fervently as he did. As we remember Leon Turner, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, achievement, and unyielding devotion to family.
